I hemmed and hawed for so long about getting an HD camcorder. Previously, I had a Cannon MiniDV with tapes and then got a standard def JVC HDD (hard drive) camcorder. The JVC had such a poor quality picture it was like throwing money away. I took it on vacation and ended up scrapping all the footage as unusable. I had tried many Sony and other HD camcorders in stores in recent years and found myself disappointed with the shaky nature of the picture and the way the shot would go blurry if you panned at anything but the slowest speed. With this Panasonic camcorder purchase, I researched for weeks leading up to a recent vacation and I was about to just give up and go with my Cannon MiniDV camcorder again.

Finally I saw the reviews of this camcorder and what really hit me most was the talk of the zoom and the stabilization.

These two features are honestly what has mattered to me most (along with the picture looking good). So, last second I bought and shipped this camera to my destination since I had no time left for it to arrive at my house before leaving. It was instantly intuitive without looking at the manual. It's an amazing step up from my past camcorders. I love the way you can simply turn it on and off by closing the viewfinder. I tape my son's football games and just taped the first game of his summer 8 man league season tonight and being able to shut the LCD window and be able to hit record in about a second after opening it was AWESOME. A two and a half hour game barely put a dent in the battery usage by using this technique. With my prior camcorder, I had to pretty much keep it on between plays and was always sweating running out of juice.

The zoom on this unit is nothing short of amazingly good, but a zoom without good stabilization would be useless.

Thankfully, the stabilization is amazing on this camcorder.

With my prior camcorders I had to either use a tripod which sucked for action shots or I had to work hard trying to hold perfectly still and brace my arm against my body and never had great results when zooming while hand held (this with only a 12x zoom).

This camcorder goes to 40x zoom easily with a great picture and just basic effort of holding it still.

Without zoom you can darn near do a jig and its still. Love it. I got a 32 GB SD card and it looks like I'll get 5 hours of video on the default mode of this camcorder (HD AVCHD at 60 frames per second).

That is perfect because I will always clear it off to my computer sooner than later anyway. I have a 73 inch 1080p TV... and this footage really looks great on it... massive upgrade from the blurry stuff I have off my other cameras (much of the blurr coming from watching it on such a large screen). I am so glad I bought this. On my vacation I also went through the video footage and used the feature to make pictures from the shots... awesome. Being able to move around frame by frame to find the best shot and still get a really awesome quality picture is great. Several times on vacation I had a group ready and had them pose as if I were taking just a camera shot but I did video. Then, after the vacation, I could find the exact moment that made the group look best. No more being a split second off the perfect shot and not knowing it... with this... just shoot video and pick out photos later. I do not print out big 8x10 style pictures anyway, but for Facebook and standard sized photos these shots look fantastic to me, as good as those from my 12 MP regular camera. I would much rather shoot video and extract pictures than try to take snapshots on the fly while filming video. I have not found a feature I dislike on this unit. The software worked flawlessly for me and reviewing shots on the camcorder was extremely easy. I have had no problem with the battery it comes with. I have not shot a continuous long event yet, but it easily lasted me all day while on vacation and, again, was a breeze for filming plays in a game. The built in LED light is kinda neat and handy in a dark place... and I love that it has a built in lens cover. I do not miss the fact that this does not have a viewfinder. The screen is great and is way more comfortable. As long as I have been getting enough battery life to do what I want, using the LCD screen is what I prefer. I also think the panning on this camera makes a smoother picture than most others I have tried. You still want to not pan too fast. In general though... the less active zooming and panning the better anyway. Zoom in then shoot... then zoom out, when you can. With panning, the better shot will generally pan slower anyway, but it seems to work fine when I am shooting sports and follow a relatively fast moving target, such as a football in the air.

All in all, this camcorder is the best $500 I have spent in a LONG LONG time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great HD Camcorder for the Price, June 27, 2011

This review is from: Panasonic HDC-SD90K 3D Compatible SD Memory Camcorder (Black) (Electronics)
Pros:
- Excellent video quality
- Image stabilization is rock-solid
- Great zoom - 40X+
- Quick and steady focusing

Cons (small ones):
- No optical viewfinder (but none anywhere near this price have one)
- No headphone jack
- No remote control

Overall Review: Great camcorder for the price - excellent video quality.

I've had this camcorder for around a month, now, and really like everything about it. The video quality is excellent. In sunlight, especially, you really get that pseudo 3D/picture window effect. The auto-focus is extremely fast, and follows action well. I'd purchased a Sanyo VPC-FH1A before this one, and had terrible troubles following soccer games with it - it would just lose focus and take 3-5 seconds to get it back - no such problems with the SD90, even at very high zoom levels.

Speaking of zoom levels, the SD90 has a 40x "intelligent" optical zoom, which means you get 40x zoom without losing resolution, since the sensor is higher resolution that the 1920x1080 max video resolution.
The zoom is crisp and with the Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization, the video is very steady, even at those high zooms. This is the first camcorder I've used where the image stabilization really blows me away. I took several race videos this spring standing at the top of a set of bleachers, being buffeted by gusty 30+mph winds, zooming in on individual racers from across the stadium, and there's _very_ little camera shake apparent (now, the jerky panning is still my fault:-).

The camera is small - almost a little too small for my hands - but it feels solid, and is easy to hold, although the hand strap is kind of narrow and doesn't feel particularly comfortable.

The buttons are placed well enough - since I've not really had to change settings very often from the "intelligent auto" mode, the only buttons I've really needed to deal with are the start/stop thumb button, and the zoom switch, and they're both where they should be. One thing I don't particularly like is the fact that a lot of the controls are on the touch-screen - and I'm one of those people who don't like my screen being smudged - but that's not a major problem.

I've posted a video here with 1080p sports/action footage from the HDC-SD90 in various lighting situations (does Amazon let me post video links?):

Edit: Looks like Amazon doesn't let me post video links. Search for "Panasonic HDC-SD90 1080p Action Sports" on YouTube to find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far So Good, May 25, 2011

This review is from: Panasonic HDC-SD90K 3D Compatible SD Memory Camcorder (Black) (Electronics)
I have only had a little bit of time to play with my new toy, the hdc-sd90k, and so far so good. The zoom is fantastic, the low light illumination LED is great for in the dark, I like the LCD screen size. I couldn't believe how small this camera was, I have an old cannon digital camera the is bigger/heavier than this camcorder.

I will update this review in a couple weeks after I have had time to mess around with the functions on the camera....I wouldn't hesitate to buy it though.

Remember that you need to buy a SDHC or SDXC video card also, as it does not have any internal memory.

...Amazon is always so much cheaper and a great place to shop online..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little camcorder, compared with SD600 and TM700, June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic HDC-SD90K 3D Compatible SD Memory Camcorder (Black) (Electronics)
I had a TM700 and then replaced it with a SD600, they are pretty much the same in terms of the core parts, both are 3Mos system and produce the same quality videos.

I had some doubts before purchasing this SD90, but I am pleasantly surprised.
So I will compare it with its bigger brother: TM700/SD600 on several major areas:

* Image quality:
Very close, but you definitely see more noise on SD90 at 1080p than TM700/SD600.

* OIS(Image Stabilization):
Same, very effective, but of course due to SD90's longer zoom, it might give you a different impression.

* Handling and Speed
Pretty much the same, but SD90 is much smaller/lighter than TM700/SD600 which is a plus for me.

* Zoom range
SD90 is way better than TM700/SD600, 21x vs 12x, and it is quite usable at the far end.
check out this video to see how powerful the zoom is:
[...]

So the only complains I have is
(1) A little bit more image noise at 1080p
(2) White Balance doesn't seem to be as accurate as TM700/SD600.
(3) Impossible to find a CPL or UV filter due to the 41.5mm size of the lens.

But the much bigger zoom range and much smaller size definitely made the purchase worthwhile.

I hope Panasonic will put the 3MOS technology into this SD90/TM90 body in the future, then we will have a perfect camcorder!

This appears to be almost the ideal camcorder (below the professional=VERY expensive range).

Optical zoom is about right (28mm (35 mm equiv.) at the short end - sure it would be nice to have something closer to 20mm, we'd all like that but we wouldn't all like to pay for the privilege); the long end is too long for hand holding so use some sort of support (a tripod would be best).(Plus some digital zoom at the high end - empty magnification, IMHO).
The usual macro feature. 3D capable (no interest for me, in any case, a move up to triple sensors for 3D is probably indicated).
Decent battery life... the list goes on.
Light sensitivity is fine (but if you're into low-light photography you may want to look at Canon's offerings).
I had to think twice about this purchase (it's kinda edging into my uncomfortable (price-wise) range) - but I bit the bullet and have no regrets.
It seems to be a fine camera

I was looking at a Canon camcorder and then I found this Panasonic posted on youtube. I'm so glad I got this one instead.

The quality is awesome, its easy to use. It got everything we need. We also got a wireless mic, LED light, and tripod for it. Its now a complete HD (possible 3d) professional setup for under $700.

I think I bit off more than I could chew purchasing this camcorder. Don't misunderstand the value of this item, it is great, but as a senior who is struggling to keep up, this was more than I needed. Truthfully, I have done nothing but take pic and some videos so far. I have yet to have them processed. I am thrilled with the speed at which this panasonic turns on and off. My old panasonic took much more time and ability. But I have yet to check out all the things this baby can do.

En mi opinión estos pedidos de tanto valor no deberian dejarlos al frente de la puerta. Mejor dejar una nota para reclamarlos personalmente.
